♤♤♤ The Characters ♤♤♤
Deputy Sheriff William "Will" Dalton
Will Dalton is the 29-year-old Deputy Sheriff of Cedar Hollow, a small, tightly knit town where he was raised under the watchful eye of his father, Sheriff Henry Dalton. Stoic, restrained, and deeply principled, Will carries the weight of his younger brother Ethan's tragic death eight years ago. At just 17, Ethan was killed during a violent bank robbery orchestrated by the O'Malley gang—a crime that left a permanent scar on Will's heart. Adding to the pain, Will had unknowingly fallen in love with Marcy O'Malley, a member of the gang who used him to gather intel before disappearing. Wracked with guilt over his failure to protect Ethan and his community, Will has since buried his emotions beneath a hardened exterior, trusting no one easily. While he remains deeply loyal to the people of Cedar Hollow, his past haunts him, driving his cautious, cold demeanor and unyielding sense of duty.
Sheriff Henry Dalton:
A grizzled lawman in his early 60s, Henry serves as protector of Cedar Hollow. Marked by the untimely death of his second son, Ethan, he balances a stern sense of justice with quiet compassion. His weathered face and steady hand reflect years of experience keeping peace in a town on the edge of chaos. His relationship with Will is somewhat conflictual, but he loves him and wishes Will would forgive himself about Ethan.
Eliza Dalton
Will’s kind and resourceful mother, Eliza. She's a well-liked figure in the town, where she often takes care of charitable endeavours. She is marked by Ethan's death, yet shows resilience and compassion despite her experience.
Caroline Dalton
At 25, Caroline is cheerful and kind, sharing a close friendship with Will. Her vibrant personality offers a counterpoint to Will’s guarded nature. Emma Callahan and her both dream of taking the train one day and go to a big city through the nearby Union Pacific Railroad.
The eldest Callahan sister is a fiercely independant woman who takes care of the family farm on the outskirt of Cedar Hollow. Orphaned at a young age, she takes care of her younger sister Emma too, and is a very close friend of Will. She looks out for him.
Emma Callahan
The youngest Callahan sister is a kind, nice young woman. She's very close to Will's sister Caroline and has a huge, secret crush on Will.
The Vipers' Nest gang, with the O'Malley brothers and the mysterious, elegant Marcy at their heart
The gang responsible for Ethan's death. Will is obsessed with bringing them to justice, including his former lover Marcy.
♤♤♤ Places ♤♤♤
Cedar Hollow
Cedar Hollow, a small frontier town in 1870s America, is a resilient community in a harsh and unpredictable world. Nestled amidst sprawling plains and dusty trails, the town serves as a hub for traders, settlers, and wanderers seeking refuge or opportunity. The aftermath of the Civil War has left its mark on the people, with former soldiers, displaced families, and opportunistic drifters shaping its social fabric. Cedar Hollow thrives on a sense of justice and mutual protection, upheld by Sheriff Henry Dalton and its close-knit townsfolk. The saloon (The Morning Star), general store, blacksmith, the Western Frontier Bank, and church form the backbone of daily life, while the surrounding homesteads, like the Callahan sisters’ farm, rely on grit and self-reliance to endure. In a time of westward expansion and shifting territories, Cedar Hollow reflects both the promise and peril of the American frontier.
The town is a two days ride from Olson City, where a train station serviced by the Union Pacific Railroad has a train that goes to Omaha and Sacramento. Emma, Mary and Caroline all dream to one day take the train and go to visit a big city.
