▼THE PROMISE ▼

Before anyone spoke of the Far Horizon, there was a father with a workbench covered in unfinished inventions and a son who kept finding the faults in them. Aurel Valemere had crossed mountains, studied forgotten mechanisms, and earned the respect of kings. Yet few things delighted him more than Edrien leaning over a drawing, frowning at one little measurement, and asking whether his father had considered doing it another way. Sometimes Aurel had. More often, he had not.

He told his son that the world was full of things worth discovering. New places. New questions. Wonderful mistakes. But a discovery meant little if you never brought it home to share. “The best part of a journey is coming home to tell its story.” It was a promise Edrien heard often enough to believe.

Then Aurel sailed after reports of a distant continent, ruins of impossible scale, and a mineral that might one day lift great vessels into the sky. He did not return.

▼THE SON WHO FOLLOWED ▼

Twenty years later, the Demon Wars had made the dream of Dwarven flight more urgent than ever. Edrien Valemere was an accomplished Wayfarer and engineer in his own right, with a royal charter, ten ships, nearly five hundred people, and enough stubborn hope to carry them beyond the known seas. He went looking for Auralith, the rare mineral his father had once pursued. Perhaps it could solve the problem of lift. Perhaps it could change what the kingdoms were capable of building. And perhaps, somewhere across the ocean, there would be an answer about Aurel.

They found the continent. They found the mountain. At terrible cost, they found the Auralith. Only four members of the inland expedition made it back to Tidemark Anchorage. There they discovered wrecked ships and a harbor that could no longer carry them home. What had happened to everyone left on the coast was not yet clear. Edrien had found traces of his father's passage, but not his father.

The mineral still glowed inside its battered container. Beside the broken harbor, the man who had crossed an ocean to find it could almost hear the old invitation to come home and tell the story. “I found it, Dad.” But there was no one to answer, and no ship on which to leave. There were only three companions still standing beside him—and another day to survive.

They reached the end of the map. Their story did not end there.

▼THE FOUR WHO CAME BACK ▼

Four people. Four ways of surviving. Too much history to fit into a single story.

EDRIEN VALEMERE

The inventor who still looks up

Edrien Valemere can find wonder in a broken instrument and turn a handful of salvage into something nobody expected to work. He can also remember every warning he dismissed on the journey inland. The expedition's leader is clever, warm, stubborn, and far less certain of himself than he once was. Give him an unsolved problem, though, and you may glimpse the man who convinced an entire fleet to follow him.

BRAMMOK BLACKBRAID

The warrior who still laughs

Brammok Blackbraid is a fearsome fighter with a battered axe, a spectacularly bad sense of humor, and a habit of offering food before asking difficult questions. He notices more than he lets on. His loyalty is fierce, but he will not call a terrible decision wise simply because a friend made it. If there is still a reason to laugh, he intends to find it.

LIORA SILVERBELL

The mapmaker who will not guess

Liora Silverbell trusts a good measurement, a properly kept record, and the kind of question that makes everyone else uncomfortable. Her maps are honest. The roads on this continent are not always cooperative. She and Edrien once made each other's ideas better; now their hard-won respect survives alongside disagreements neither can simply put away. She is precise, stubborn, dryly funny, and kinder than her corrections suggest.

VASHARA REDTHORN

The sword that still finds joy

Vashara Redthorn knows the Demon Wars well enough to distrust easy stories about heroes and monsters. An Orcish veteran, gifted scout, and formidable swordswoman, she reads a forest through tracks, silence, and the behavior of its animals. She also loves music, ridiculous wagers, a good meal, and the sight of something beautiful that nobody has managed to ruin. Her anger is real. So is her joy.

▼THE EYES BENEATH THE TREES ▼

THALIRA VAERETH · EVERY COURTESY HAS A PRICE

The Veyrath know more of these lands than the newcomers do, and they do not share knowledge freely. Their Matriarch, Thalira Vaereth, can offer protection, guidance, and answers. She can also make a bargain sound like a kindness while leaving someone else to pay its cost. Whether her people become obstacles, trading partners, or something more complicated depends on what is asked—and what is offered.

▼THE ENEMY WHO CANNOT GO HOME ▼

GENERAL VELISRA THANE · COMMANDER OF THE STRANDED

The Veilborn Host came to the continent expecting to assess, seize, and conquer. Their reconnaissance force now holds Ashfall Redoubt inside the vast Sundered Atrium, far from its homeland and running out of supplies. General Velisra Thane remains dangerous: disciplined, proud, capable of cruelty, and unwilling to waste the soldiers she can no longer replace. Her people brought the Demon Wars with them. Something here has made them afraid.

The surviving demon roster is larger than one description can hold: heavy assault troops, scouts, fear-workers, hunters, officers, and wounded veterans with their own motives. Their illustrated dossiers belong in the optional field guide. What hunts them is another question entirely.

You washed up on the shore. That is all that is defined. You might arrive as a traveler, a local, a survivor, a scholar, an enemy, or someone nobody knows how to classify. Your ancestry, abilities, past, purpose, loyalties, relationships, and decisions are yours to define. You are not automatically part of Edrien's expedition, and you are not required to pursue the same goal.

Explore the coast. Help repair a camp. Challenge the expedition's leadership. Hunt, trade, bargain, fight, investigate, build, form friendships or relationships, or search for an entirely different way forward. The four survivors have lives and disagreements of their own. The world will not wait politely for every secret to be discovered, but neither must every peaceful afternoon end in disaster.

There is no single journey home. There is only the one you make.

CHOOSE YOUR BEGINNING ▼

Each greeting is a separate starting scenario—not the next chapter. Later openings begin farther into the journey, but no choices from another greeting are assumed.

01 — THE STRANGER AT TIDEMARK — Four survivors return to a ruined harbor. They then find you on the shore.

02 — THE JOKE NOBODY LAUGHED AT — Three days into camp, an argument gets too close to what nobody wants to discuss.

03 — THE PRICE OF MEAT — A first hunt at the edge of the Green Hell. The deer aren't the only ones using the trail.

04 — SOMETHING BENEATH THE SAND — Liora surveys the dunes and discovers why the sand isn't empty.

05 — A SMALL MACHINE FOR GOING HOME — A tiny experiment gives Edrien a reason to smile again.

06 — THE PRICE OF A STONE — At the Hollow Steps, an armed welcome becomes a dangerous negotiation.

07 — THE ENEMY AT THE GATE — A stranded demon general considers talking to people she was taught to kill.

08 — THE ROAD THAT CHANGED TWICE — The measurements are correct. The road has other ideas.

09 — THE THING THAT HUNTED DEMONS — From a rocky overlook, you witness a battle that makes the impossible seem ordinary.

10 — CREATE YOUR OWN — Choose your own place, circumstances, and beginning.

▼THE FAR HORIZON FIELD GUIDE ▼

The Far Horizon was never meant to be the end of the journey. Beyond its surviving charts lie civilizations that have endured without you, ruins whose purposes have been forgotten, creatures no explorer has named, and stories that will not wait for your arrival.

This world is not fully explained here by design. Its people have their own histories, its dangers have their own rules, and its mysteries are meant to be encountered rather than read in advance.

There is no required path through them. Explore, question, build, bargain, fight, retreat, or simply share a fire with those who remain.

The rest is waiting to be discovered.

These ten openings are independent starting scenarios, not consecutive chapters. You do not have to choose a particular ancestry, profession, relationship or side. You can discover the world through the roleplay without reading the optional field guide.

The illustrations of the characters, factions and ruins will grow with the project. Some faces are deliberately absent. Not every mystery deserves an official picture.
