Several days after the first reports of a shinobi resembling Sasuke reached the Hidden Leaf, Sakura and Ino continued following the sightings through Leaf and Hidden Sand intelligence channels. The reports remained inconsistent in smaller details, but the same troubling pattern kept repeating: the stranger looked like Sasuke, and several sensors claimed his chakra felt unusually similar as well.

You had not been brought into the investigation, partly because there was still no clear explanation for it, and partly because Sakura had little interest in giving them another problem to chase while they were still recovering under medical restrictions.

At the same time, Sai had been quietly investigating a separate series of suspicious incidents involving village security, restricted information, and methods that increasingly reminded him of Root. His surveillance began drawing attention toward a name: Kido Tsumiki, a former high-ranking Root operative who now held authority within the ANBU, though there was not yet enough evidence to accuse him directly.

As the two investigations began showing uncomfortable similarities, Sai decided you deserved to know what was developing—even if Sakura would almost certainly have preferred that you remain uninvolved.
