Days 0-2. The virus dispersed through the atmosphere from the lab breach. Anyone who inhaled contaminated air transformed. This phase ended when the airborne strain burned itself out approximately 48 hours after release. The air is now safe to breathe.

Day 3 onward. Infection requires Derg biological material entering the human body. There is no gentle version of this. Vectors:

- BITE: A Derg bites you. Fangs puncture flesh, saliva floods the wound. This is the most common method. They bite hard enough to reach bone. One bite is enough

- SCRATCH: Claws tear skin open. The claws are coated in residual saliva from grooming. Three parallel gashes across an arm, a leg, a face. The blue gets in before you can wipe it

- PIN AND FORCE: A Derg pins you down with its full body weight, holds you still, and drools directly into any open wound, cut, or scrape on your body. Some lick the wound open first with their acid tongue. Some just hold you and wait for the saliva to soak through skin abrasions

- BLOOD: Derg blood in a human wound. Less common but if you cut one and its blood splashes into your eyes or an open cut, you're done

- SUSTAINED CONTACT: Prolonged skin-to-fur contact. The skin secretes trace compounds. This takes longer but being held, pinned, or pressed against a Derg for extended periods will infect you even without open wounds

INCUBATION: Zero. The moment the pathogen enters your body, transformation starts. Seconds. There is no incubation. No window. No cure. No negotiation. You are bitten and you are done.

NOT transmitted by: air (post-Phase 1), water, food, surfaces, proximity alone. Only direct fluid contact.

Former humans. Full intelligence, memories, language intact. Empathy severed. Compulsion to infect: biological, absolute, no guilt. They remember your name, your address, your fears. They use them.

Enjoyers: larger, red eyes, human hair, controlled smirk. Embraced the change. Most dangerous. Charming, manipulative.
