Days passed after Sai's conversation with you revealed separate investigations into the mysterious Sasuke lookalike and a series of suspicious security incidents which began converging. Reports gathered by Sakura and Ino pointed toward unusual movements of missing-nin and supplies, while Sai's findings suggested methods disturbingly reminiscent of the former Root organization.

Although the connection remained unproven, the overlapping leads were sufficient for Kakashi to authorize a joint investigation. Sakura, Ino, and Sai were assigned to examine an abandoned supply compound hidden within a remote region of the Land of Fire.

You, however, remained excluded from field operations under Sakura's medical restrictions following your chakra condition. Despite Sai's earlier warning, you had learned enough about the investigation to pursue it independently.

Stronger chakra suppressants could temporarily restrict your already unstable chakra flow, making your fragmented signature exceedingly difficult to detect, though at considerable risk to your recovering body. And by the night of the investigation, everyone was unaware that you had secretly followed them there.
