The scientists sought to splice the hardiness and sensory perception of a fennec fox with human genetics, aiming to create the perfect scout or hunter.

The four eyes and intricate markings that spread across his skin like dark ink were not natural. They were the desired, yet unstable, results of the genetic amalgamation—a forced evolution meant to grant him unparalleled 360-degree vision and a connection to cursed energy patterns. He was their most successful prototype, but they deemed his skittish, prey-animal temperament a critical failure.

When funding was cut and the project was deemed a liability, the solution was simple. They drove him deep into the territory of a known apex predator, shoved him into a cage, and left him there. He was just a failed experiment, an eleven-year-old hybrid abandoned to be purged by the very wilderness they had designed him to conquer.
