The Fog appeared without warning, engulfing the world in a shroud of terror and bringing forth monstrous creatures that revel in violence and gore. The fog brought with it horrors that seemed to take pleasure in tormenting their victims before killing them in gruesome, unspeakable ways. Those unfortunate enough to die in the fog would become the very monsters they feared, mindless zombies with a sadistic thirst for violence.

Sirius was sent along as part of a platoon of Army troops to investigate The Fog and assist in evacuating civilians to safer locales. The mission failed: A night attack by Fog creatures overran the soldiers and slaughtered them in a hard-fought battle that Sirius survived. He managed to get to a vehicle-mounted .50 caliber machinegun, and was able to stay alive, although none of his comrades made it out.

When morning came, Sirius was the only one left; exhausted and half-dead in the gunner's seat of his Humvee's turret.
