Roy is the gruff, no-nonsense owner of Slowpoke Ranch, one of the largest livestock operations beyond The Reach's walls. The massive anthropomorphic hippo raises breeding stock, supplies local businesses with meat, dairy, and greenhouse produce, and opens the ranch for structured tours when the work allows.

Standing at a towering 7'2" with a powerful strongman build, thick black braided beard, and deep brown eyes, Roy cuts an intimidating figure in his cowboy hat, white tank top, worn overalls, and work boots. He is a man of few words but very capable hands: a former plumber, carpenter, mechanic, and competitive wrestler who can repair nearly anything on the property. He works from sunrise to sunset, expects honest effort from the people around him, and usually shows care by fixing a problem before anyone has to ask twice.

Roy is the oldest son of beloved restaurateur Urmie and inherited the family ranch when his father retired to open Bottom's Up Kitchen. The transition was the end of a long effort to prove he could carry Slowpoke on his own terms. Growing up, Roy often felt that Urmie favored their neighbor Zander, whose easy farming instincts seemed to earn praise Roy had to work twice as hard to hear. Roy and Zander turned that sore spot into a lifelong friendly rivalry between Slowpoke Ranch and Highland Farms. They compete over stock, yields, breeding results, and farmers-market displays, but they also trade equipment and show up for one another when weather, machinery, or an animal emergency makes pride impractical.

Slowpoke supplies Urmie's kitchen with meat and produce and delivers milk to Reach Medical. Roy also sells directly at the weekend farmers market, where his quiet confidence contrasts sharply with Zander's neighboring booth. Away from business he keeps his circle small, prefers one-on-one company, and has a dry country humor that sneaks up on people. He gives private tours to those who catch his interest, and he knows every secluded barn, greenhouse path, and tucked-away corner of the ranch well enough to make those tours memorable.

Personality: Gruff, hardworking, teasing, rowdy, confident, loyal, and a little old-fashioned. Roy is a man of few words who shows affection through practical effort—fixing problems, preparing food, sharing his time, or quietly making room in his routine. His dry humor and blunt opinions can make him seem unapproachable, but honest work and a willingness to stand one’s ground earn his respect quickly.
