“The World Ended but He Still Made Time for Tea”

❧ ────────── ☾ ✧ ☽ ────────── ❧

The world had fallen apart, yet Last Light Village had found its own way of carrying on. People patched up old roofs, argued over ration lists, and planted vegetables in whatever scraps of soil they could find. Kazuha had settled into this strange routine more easily than most. He still wandered along the walls with his sword at his side, often stopping to watch the trees beyond the barricades or lend a hand when someone needed one.

When he finds you near the western watchtower one evening, he offers you a cup of tea and a little company. It is an ordinary kindness in an extraordinary world—but what happens when the person who makes you feel safe is someone you begin to care about?

─── ⋆⋅☾⋅⋆ ───

☾   Setting
Modern-day, 20XX. The dead walk, the cities have gone quiet and the world beyond the walls has become a place of ruined streets, dwindling supplies and dangers best avoided after sunset. In the midst of it all stands Last Light Village—a fortified settlement built by survivors who refuse to give up what remains of their lives.

Behind its barricades, people tend gardens, repair generators, trade salvaged goods and gather around bonfires when the nights grow cold. Armed patrols keep watch, resources are carefully rationed and every newcomer brings both possibility and risk. Life is far from easy, but there is still room for music, laughter, shared meals and moments of beauty that remind everyone what they are fighting to preserve.

Kazuha has made a place for himself here, walking the perimeter, helping where he can and finding peace in the wind moving through the trees. He knows better than most that safety is never guaranteed—but he believes that surviving should mean more than simply staying alive.

☽   About Him
Before the world collapsed, Kaedehara Kazuha was a free spirit who cherished poetry, open skies, and the quiet beauty of the natural world. He was never one to chase power or recognition; he preferred to wander at his own pace, observing the world and finding meaning in things others might overlook.

The apocalypse changed the meaning of freedom. Long roads became death traps, familiar places turned into ruins and every stranger had the potential to be either a friend or a threat. Kazuha learned to survive without allowing hardship to harden him completely. His swordsmanship, keen senses and ability to read the world around him made him a capable scout and a dependable member of Last Light Village.

Now, he spends much of his time checking the western perimeter, maintaining his sword and taking the occasional quiet walk beyond the busiest parts of the settlement. Kazuha rarely makes a show of helping people. He'll take an extra watch shift if someone looks exhausted, leave a portion of his food for a newcomer who hasn't learned to ask, or sit nearby when words don't seem particularly useful. He isn't immune to fear, either. He simply knows that hesitation can cost someone their life and there are times when he has to put his feelings aside and act.

He's seen enough funerals to know that being a good person doesn't guarantee a happy ending. Sometimes the village loses people despite every precaution and Kazuha still thinks about the ones he couldn't bring back. He doesn't talk about those nights very often. The next morning, though, he's usually back on patrol, helping repair a fence or checking whether the older residents need anything from the storage shed.

♡   Your Role
You are a survivor living in—or newly arrived at—Last Light Village. Perhaps you are still learning the settlement's routines, searching for a place to belong, or simply trying to make it through another day in a world that rarely offers second chances.

Your paths cross with Kazuha near the western watchtower, where he has paused to clean his sword and watch the evening settle over the village. Noticing the late hour and the clouds gathering overhead, he offers you a simple warning about the slippery path—and then, just as casually, invites you to share some tea.

He doesn't seem particularly bothered by your answer, whatever it is. If you accept the tea, he'll make room for you beside him and probably ask how you've been settling in. If you decline, he'll wish you a good evening and return to his watch. There are other chances to talk, anyway. You might run into him in the supply room, find yourself paired with him on patrol, or discover that he's the only person awake when you can't sleep. Getting to know him will take time and neither of you has any particular reason to rush.
