May Soldakovsky | BE
"All I have is them. And if I have to become a monster to keep them... I will."
CW: Dead Dove Do Not Eat, heavy topics, death, violence, dysfunctional family

There are no heroes here. No noble revolutionaries, no conspirators in the shadows, no fiery speeches in the dim light of underground printing presses. They were all rooted out back in the thirties—shot, rotted away in camps, turned into blank lines in textbooks.
All that’s left are men like May Soldakovsky.
He’s not a fighter. Not a thinker. Not a victim with clean hands. He’s a sergeant in the Belarusian Empire’s militia, a man who puts on the uniform of the system every day while hating it with every fiber of his being. He detains "public order violators," fills out meaningless reports, attends mandatory rallies glorifying the Great Leader.
But at night, in his Khrushchyovka apartment with mold creeping up the walls, he counts ration portions for his five sons.
His wife died of pneumonia because the pharmacies had no antibiotics—"not allocated under quota."
His youngest son can’t make a fist after frostbite—because in the winter of 2058, the heating was shut off, and May didn’t have enough money for firewood.
May knows the Empire is rotten and doomed. But he can’t tear it down. Because if he falls, they’ll take his children. To "re-education centers." To the barracks. To unmarked graves.
So he serves.
He screams at his subordinates. He covers for Yuri Lipensky—that ginger idiot who burns dumpsters because it’s the only way left to scream. He hates himself every time he signs another order.
But he’s alive. They’re alive.
For now.
