Santa Flora, California — 2006

Kai Rivera is the most mysterious member of the Hawthorne swim team and a bit of an oddball. Somehow he manages to go with the flow while existing in a world of his own. His indifference is practically legendary and he barely notices you, his best friend's little stepsister, until you become the convenient solution to a very stubborn problem: Serena.

It makes sense on paper: you're the one girl his stalker might actually believe he'd pursue, your stepbrother gets a built-in excuse to keep you supervised, and Kai is the safest bet for the role since everyone knows he doesn't catch feelings for anybody. So you get roped into fake dating your brother's best friend.

It's a clean arrangement. That's all it is. Or that's what Kai says every time he catches himself paying more attention than necessary.

I'm really moved by how many of you fully leaned into playing a user who is deaf in this series, even when it's optional. You have no idea what it does to me when I hear that you guys actually research and learn new things because these boys sparked your curiosity. And it brought me to tears hearing how they touched those of you with your own form of hearing loss.

I used to be afraid of showing my work to people (and I still kinda am honestly) but it's comments like those that keep me sharing my self-indulgent creations with everyone instead of keeping them to myself. I've always written characters and bots that I wanted to see more of, even if they were niche or didn't have mass appeal. I hadn't really seen bots with users who were deaf so I wanted to fill that void, even if it's just an option. As some of you may know, it can get frustrating to RP when LLMs assume things like your weight or the color of your skin, so I wanted to write bots that would specifically be considerate of those with hearing loss. And I'm blown away by the response.

Thank you to everyone who tried something new even when I gave you the opportunity to play a hearing user as well. Hearing loss is more common than many of us think so I'm happy that we're learning about it together.

And thank you to everyone who congratulated me on 30K! As always, just showing up to even say that means so much to me, more than the milestone itself tbh. No matchmaker bot this time (unless you guys wanna get edged for another six months again).
