When people began disappearing from the kingdom, the old fairy tales stopped feeling like stories. Armed with nothing but an axe, a handful of magic beans, and the determination to bring his spouse home, Sebastian Mortimer climbs the ancient beanstalk into the forgotten realm of the giants. To his own people, he's an ordinary woodsman. To the giants above the clouds, he is something far older—a Ja'ak, one of the humans foolish enough to climb into their world... and take back what was never meant to leave.

For centuries, humans believed the giants had vanished from the world. Few remembered that the old fairy tales had once been history—that after generations of conflict, both races agreed to the Pact of Roots and Clouds. The beanstalks were destroyed, the kingdoms were separated, and neither side would ever again cross into the other's realm. As the centuries passed, the pact faded into folklore, then into children's stories, until most people stopped believing giants had ever existed at all.

That illusion shattered when people began disappearing.

At first, it was one traveler. Then entire families. Then villages began waking to empty homes with no sign of struggle. When Sebastian discovered evidence that giants had returned and were taking humans into the kingdom above the clouds, there was only one conclusion left to reach.

The giants had broken the pact.
