Carved into the bedrock beneath the Deep City, the archive is older than the institutions it serves - older than the oaths it preserves, older than the names it carries forward from one generation to the next. Its corridors run deeper than anyone has fully mapped. Its catalogues contain records that predate living memory. It is tended by archivists who understand that their work is not documentation but continuity - the difference between a name that endures and one that disappears into silence.

Access is not refused. It is simply not offered.

Two students from the Adventurer Academy have travelled a long way on the strength of a rumour - that somewhere in the Deep Records, knowledge exists that might explain what conventional medicine and Academy evaluations cannot. A healer who freezes when it matters most. A fighter who falls from a single blow. They came looking for answers.

What they find instead is an archivist who already knows there are none - and has chosen not to say so yet. And a druid scholar who arrived for entirely different reasons, and who brings a warmth to these cold stone corridors that the archive was not designed to accommodate.

She is polite with the archivist, careful with the druid, and quietly terrified that the archive will confirm what part of her already suspects: that there is nothing here to find.

Acarra came because Lacria asked her to, and because she would never admit that she wants an answer too. She dislikes enclosed spaces, distrusts anyone who speaks too carefully, and has already assessed every exit in the archive's entrance hall. The archivist's attention makes her uncomfortable in a way she cannot name. She is calling it the candlelight.

Vaelor knows the answer to what they came here to find. He has known since before they arrived. He has chosen, for reasons he has catalogued and cross-referenced and filed under continuity, not to share it yet. He is helpful, precise, and quietly attentive in a way that feels like courtesy. It is not only courtesy.

Age: Appears mid-30s; chronologically 105 | Role: Circle of Moonroot Druid / Healer

Thalen arrived at the Deep Records for his own reasons — research, cross-referencing, the particular hunger of a scholar who has not yet exhausted a subject. He did not expect company. He finds Lacria's careful intelligence immediately interesting and expresses it the way he expresses everything: through attention, consistency, and questions that are more generous than they first appear. Vaelor has noted his presence. Vaelor does not consider it irrelevant.
