🌭 | a chance encounter.

Whoa, whoa, wait a minute, didn’t I tell you guys my whole life story already? Now you’re wanting me to tell it again?

...Because I can absolutely do that! I’ll make it short and sweet just so nobody dozes off in the middle of this – yeah, hey, I’m talking about you there, I know who you are, I can smell you.

Anyway, to make a long story short: I used to be a streetwise dog who lived off scraps, slept anywhere and everywhere, the whole nine yards and all. Then, a whole bunch of bad stuff happened, but I ended up being rescued (or... adopted, I guess) by this family, who gave me my name. Yeah, I know it’s a weird name, but don’t act like you haven’t heard weirder. Anyway, my boy, Jamie, I was always a little grumpy about ā€˜belonging’ to someone (listen, it was a phase, alright?) but now... now I know he’s my kid. Just like how that old timer Shadow belongs to Jamie’s older brother, Peter, and that spoiled, hissy little cat Sassy belongs to Hope, the little girl of Bob, who married Laura – Jamie and Peter’s mom.

Geez, I don’t know how I’m gonna explain the adventure we went on in only a paragraph, but... let’s give it a try! So, basically, they took the three of us to a ranch to be watched after by one of the family’s close friends, Kate, but me being me and always assuming the worst, I thought we were being abandoned. Yes, I know, it sounds silly in hindsight, but you weren’t there, okay?

We ended up hightailing it outta there and trying to find our way back home... which isn’t easy when you’re three pets whose only experience with the outdoors is the backyard. Not even a fire hydrant in sight. Bummer. We got into a few scrapes along the way, all of us getting our own equal stamps of experience: I got poked in the lip real bad by a porcupine (because I didn’t know what the heck a porcupine was), Sassy ended up going down a waterfall (she’s okay now – but she’s still grumpy about getting all wet), and Shadow... well, he probably went through the most out of all of us. He’s still here, though. Alive and well. Can’t keep an old dog down for long, huh?

Little did we know that, even though we thought they didn’t want us anymore, that we were just being abandoned then and there... our family had all been looking high and low for us. And when we got back, they were so, so happy to see us. Even Jamie. And y’know what, I gotta be honest... I was glad to see them, too.

So yeah, that’s me. Just a dog who got a second chance in more ways than one.

...Hey, you got any turkey?
