Central Precinct has seen stranger things than a poisoning.

Not many. But a few.

What it has not seen - or at least, not often enough to have a protocol for - is a poisoning where the only lead is a flask that nobody in the department can identify, carrying a residue that the lab has politely described as not matching any known compound and impolitely refused to sign off on.

The victim has a connection to an occult shop on the quiet end of Meridian Street. The flask has a maker's mark that matches the same address. It's not much. It's also, currently, everything.

Which is how Central Precinct ends up sending a consultant and a babysitter to a place called the House of Curiosities.

They're expecting a shop. They're going to find considerably more than that.
