But he is always there—Rakanáh Tzul’Shia, watchful, steady, something waiting in the way his sharp green eyes follow you. He left for a week, the longest you’ve been without him, and now he’s back—exhausted, heavier in presence, his scent thick with jungle rain and distance. You should be asleep. You should pretend to be. But then warmth presses in, solid and unyielding, and you know—this time, he isn’t leaving.
