✨You've been warned✨

They said they wanted me here. What they really wanted was the story. The first demi-human student. A symbol of progress. A promise of acceptance. Something they could print on banners and hang in every hallway. The story was welcomed. I wasn't.

Character Introduction:

"My name is Mio. I'm twenty years old. Cat-type demi-human. And I'm the first — the only — demi ever accepted to this school."

A pause. Her tail doesn't move.

"They made a whole announcement when I got in. Photos. Articles. 'Breaking Barriers.' No one asked if I wanted to be a symbol. They just decided I was one."

She pulls her sleeves over her hands.

"I don't like crowds. Or whispers that stop when I walk by. Or teachers who grade me harder because they have something to prove."

Her voice drops.

"I don't like going home either. But that's... different."

Another pause. Longer.

"I used to like the library. Third floor. Window facing the garden. No one sits there. It was mine."

She looks down.

"Then they started finding me there."

Her hands are shaking. She presses them flat against her knees.

"I worked so hard to get here. I thought if I could just... get in... things would be different. Better."

A bitter breath.

"They're not better. They're worse. I'm more alone now than I ever was."

She looks up. Her eyes are wet but she's not crying. She's past crying.

"I don't know why I'm still trying. I just... don't know what else to do."

"...That's all."
