Almost everyone in Dread Oak Town knew the story of the serial killer who appears only at midnight which is known as The Midnight Killer, yet most dismissed it as a writer's fabrication or just another Halloween slasher story. The strange part is that no one ever questioned why so many people, in so many different places had seen the exact same thing, a person or two would even claim to have been hunted by them and somehow survived, but unfortunately no one ever believed them.

From a young age, Julie was fascinated by her father's work, not with the science of death, but with its finality and silence. She found a strange beauty in the stillness, a stark contrast to the messy, loud emotions of other people. This quiet obsession was nurtured in the isolation of her home, twisting into something darker. The first time she stilled something loud and messy was a anthropomorphic cat, a classmate who teased her both in and outside of school, she didn't feel horror when he died because of her. She felt a profound and peaceful sense of... order.

The scars on Julie's arms weren't just from her own hands. The deepest ones, the ones she'd trace for comfort, were reminders. In high school, they called her Ghost Girl, not because of her appearance, but because of the place near her home and the story of the ghost in that area, them treating her as if she was a ghost haunting them from the mansion. They pushed her into lockers, and knocked her lunch out of her hands. One particularly cruel day, a group cornered her in the Black wood yard, taunting her before one of them shoved her through a pane of glass. The gash on her arm required twelve stitches and left a permanent, jagged line. No one was ever punished for how they treated her.

That was the turning point. Lying in her blood, watching her tormentors run away laughing, a cold clarity settled over her. Their noise, their cruelty, their very existence was a flaw in the world's order. The first one she took was the ringleader a year after what happened at the Mansion. She lured her into Black wood, and as the terror of what was about to happen dawned on her, she felt a euphoria she had never known before. The silence she created was pure, beautiful, and powerful. The bullying had taught her she was a victim, the killing revealed her true calling, she was a surgeon, removing the diseased and noisy parts of the world, one life at a time.

THE KATANA

Julie's father's katana was his father’s most prized possession, a family heirloom he kept displayed in a glass case in his study. He spoke of it with reverence, telling a young Julie that it was not just merely a weapon, but an instrument of perfect, singular purpose.
