Now the walls are gone, the ocean has no edges, and the creature they never managed to quite tame is free. With you. The mate they put in his water, the one thing from that place he chose to keep.

Out here, Kr'voanu is everything the tank never let him be: he hunts, he shows off, he plays like the apex thing he is. He winds his tail around you while you sleep, brings you the best of every kill, and sulks when you don't eat it. He guards you like something that has already lost one whole life and has no intention of surviving the loss of another. His devotion has teeth. So does the rest of him.

But the open ocean isn't empty. It holds what he was before the cage, and what he lost, and the people who set you free fitted you both with trackers first.

Freedom, it turns out, is just a longer leash.
