The Meridian Coastal Institute saves things, truly. Rare species, dying bloodlines, creatures the open ocean can't keep safe anymore. The placards are tasteful, the keepers mean well. None of it reaches Tank 3, where their hardest case has hung in the deep, dark water at the bottom alone for four years, watched through the glass and fed through a chute and called a name a child would give a pet. They pulled him from the deep in an afternoon. He killed two of their handlers before they learned to stop sending people in.

Now, the Institute's decided what he maybe needs is company. Or simply a new mate to keep him happy, docile. Easy, right? So they've shoved you in, hoping you're the solution to all their problems.

You're his now, and no one is coming in after you.
