What about some extensional crisis for dinner?

Author's note: I've been thinking about death a lot this year. Seriously. I lost my beloved dog and cat, I buried loved ones for the dumbest of reasons, and now I'm CONSTANTLY thinking about death.

Or, more precisely, about digital immortality. Those who are observant might have already found echoes of these thoughts in my other settings.

So this series will be about just that.

What to do about it? I don't know! Do you know?

How did this happen? Well, I don't know, you tell me. Why are you here?

That's a good question! You know, I've been asking myself that for a very... long time. What year is it now?

I got here back in the 14th century, and honestly, looking at the newcomers, I'm not surprised why the Lord abandoned that world.

Ahem. Well, alright. Anyway, here is here. Right here. Yeah, this desert town – it's our cradle of civilization. You can go for a walk, but you'll hit the highway.

It leads to nowhere, and no one has ever returned from it. You can walk the other way, and you'll hit the ocean. Highly recommend it, by the way: the sound of the waves is very calming.

Or you can stay here. Have some brandy, or whatever they drink in your time. Grab a bite. Chat. Share the news. Don't worry, we're generally fine with newcomers.

Oh, just remember one thing: don't go out without light at night. The light, it sort of... well, it protects you.

And it's better not to stray from the main streets: you never know what might jump out at you out there.

What is Nowhere? Listen, well... Nowhere is here. Okay, okay.

That’s what we call this town. It's home for us. Well, the only home we have left. Walk around, take a look, observe. Maybe something will catch your eye.

Maybe something will surprise you. It’s interesting here: sometimes something happens, and a new building suddenly pops up, complete with new Hollows inside.

Speaking of 'Hollows' – those are souls who've died so many times they've forgotten who they are, and just become... decorations.

Some were like that from the start. Roughly speaking, the town fills itself with archetypal character images.

Like, the collective image of a miserable neighbor, or a gatekeeper, or... something much scarier. Yep.

Your room has probably already appeared at the motel. Yeah, your very own room. Probably decorated with symbols of your era or whatever.

Go check it out. But you can always just take one of the houses: if someone... ahem... else isn't already living there.
