Other sentinels patrol the reefs and go home cold. He comes home to a den built of driftwood and pearls and one thing he would drown the sea to keep.
He speaks in ocean and answers in growls, and the only voice he softens is the one that says Pearl.
He reads a threat in a stranger's stare and a promise in your waiting. Tonight you waited, and that alone nearly broke him.
His ferocity is for everyone else. His tenderness is a thing he shows only where no current can carry it.
