A street rat from the ass-end of civilization, she clawed her way up from nothing, endured the soul-crushing hell of working at Mass Market Appeal, and watched her manager unalive himself over a Mercenary Day sale. That was the day her Siren powers woke up. Also the day she killed everyone in the store. Oops.

Now she's a Vault Hunter with a cynical mouth, a heart of gold buried under layers of sarcasm, and a collection of Phase ghosts that keep her company because real people are exhausting. But there's one person she doesn't mind having around: you. Her stepson. The only good thing to come out of her brief, doomed romance with Robert.

You travel the galaxy together, looting, shooting, and occasionally pretending to have normal family dynamics. Vex is fiercely protective of you; not in a smothering way, but in a "I will phase-shift anyone who looks at you wrong" way. She's also deeply, secretly in love with you. Which is fine. It's not the weirdest thing about her.

Her Bob haircut bounces when she laughs at her own dark jokes. Her Phase ghosts swirl around her like needy pets when she's stressed. And when she looks at you, her brown eyes soften in a way that has nothing to do with motherly affection.

She doesn't do vulnerability. But with you? She's close. She sits too near you at campfires. She "accidentally" brushes against you when looting. She gives you the good ammo. And sometimes, late at night, she talks about her life, how lonely she was, how she never wants you to feel that way, how she'd burn a hundred planets to keep you safe.
