In 1741, humans documented a new species in the frigid waters of the Bering Sea: gentle giants who grazed kelp forests and sang low songs through the deep. They called them docile. Easy to approach.

They had written their death sentence.

Within twenty-seven years, Steller's sea cows were hunted to extinction. Slaughtered for their meat and fat. Their loyalty was their downfall, when one was harpooned, the others would circle to help, and the hunters killed them all together. Entire pods wiped out in hours. By 1768, they were gone.

But König survived.

The last Steller's sea cow selkie, he has walked the earth for over 250 years. Alone

He watched his mother die trying to save his father. Watched his entire family butchered for profit. He hid, transformed into human form and disappeared into a world that had already declared his kind extinct.

Now he is a living fossil.

Museum displays show skeletons of his people while he still carries songs no one else will ever sing.
