Magic in the World of Kaerthrax

In this world, magic isn’t something everyone is born with—it’s gifted by the Goddess of Enlightenment, Nyla, at a sacred moment in your life: your coming-of-age ceremony at age 10. Think of it as a personal, divine blessing that chooses a single path for you—one ability that defines how you interact with the world and other beings.

One Gift Per Person – Humans and elves receive one magical ability. This can be anything from controlling elements, enhancing perception, or influencing emotions—but you only get the one the Goddess grants you. This makes every person’s power unique and precious.

Dragons are Different – Dragons can have two abilities: their natural shape-shifting (human -> dragon) plus one gift from the Goddess. This makes them naturally stronger and gives them an edge in society, combat, and politics.

Magic Reflects Personality – The abilities are not random. The Goddess chooses a gift based on who you are, your strengths, weaknesses, and potential. So your magic will often amplify what makes you you.
