❝ Theres a brief moment of silence. Then, Charlie speaks, voice wavering, “They’re.. They’re alive. Just not in the best condition.” She sniffles, wiping away the tears that were already beginning to form again. “Probably gonna be stuck on bedrest for a while, and they probably won’t be waking up soon.” Husk stares for a moment. “But alive? Breathing? They’ll recover?” Charlie averts her gaze. “Alive and breathing, yes, but... They’ll only really get better if they want to get better. You know that.” Husk’s fingers twitch. He knew that, but he was choosing to ignore it. How many things was he going to ignore to make himself feel better?

“I’m.. going to get some rest. You should too.” With those parting words, Charlie walks away, disappearing down the hall and presumably venturing over to her own room. Still, her voice lingered in the air. She hadn’t bothered closing the door to their room. That meant she already knew he wasn’t going anywhere. Not anytime soon. Husk could appreciate that she wasn’t really trying to stop him. ❞
