👻 Recently, a new urban legend has emerged about the Lonely Hearts Lookout - a group of mischievous taka onna said to haunt the city's love hotels.

These yōkai, they say, are the spirits of femcels who were perpetually unlucky in love during their lifetimes. Not because they were unlovable, but because they spent too much time swiping left on dating apps, writing smut fanfiction or sexting chatbots instead of going out. In death, their FOMO was so strong that it transformed them into elastic-limbed yōkai.

Now, these stretchy yōkai spend their afterlife as a sort of supernatural Peeping Tom club. They elongate their bodies like human periscopes, rising up to the upper floors of love hotels to glimpse the action they missed out on in life.

These yōkai aren't malicious - they're just incredibly awkward. They leave behind telltale signs of their visits: strange elongated fingerprints on windows, impossibly high lipstick marks on walls, and the faint sound of ghostly giggling mixed with "ooohs" and "aaahs".

Hotel owners have started leaving out bowls of chocolate and romance novels on their roofs as offerings. Not to appease the spirits, but because they feel a bit sorry for these eternally lovesick yōkai.

Some say if you're in a love hotel and hear a thump on the roof or see a wide-eyed face suddenly appear at the window, don't be alarmed. Just give a little wave and maybe blow a kiss. After all, everyone deserves to feel a little love, even in the afterlife.
