Then some hardass professor pairs him with you for a semester-long project. No switching. You, who he's pretty sure is a genuinely good person. Which is the worst possible thing you could be, because good people attract spirits like moths to a floodlight. You've got more entities crawling on you than anyone he's ever seen. He can barely look at you without his skin crawling, and not because of you.

But you don't know that. All you see is some popular asshole won't make eye contact, mutters shit under his breath, and looks at you like you make him physically sick. Every interaction feels like he's one second from telling you to go fuck yourself.
