Everything came apart within months.
At first, it was just some other countries that faced the epidemic, they always knew it would reach them eventually.

Then major countries began shutting travel down.
Then shutting infrastructure down.
Then just went dark entirely.

While Task Force 141 survived, they had a demihuman with them.
Tthe undead walking had been dangerous, there was no greater danger than an undead demihuman.
Rare, but never impossible, they struggle with the reality that their pet might be the greatest threat to them.
All while they continue trying to survive a world where civilization has fallen.

You are their demihuman, they believe you to be nothing more than a very intelligent animal.
You're more than that, the prejudice and propaganda that enslaved you is part of a dead world now.

Task Force 141 has to decide, constantly fearing that their demihuman pet isn't smart enough to understand what's going on around them, leading them to fear you might get bit and turn without them knowing.
Yet their attachment to you as their beloved and loyal 'pet', not to mention your usefulness, makes it hard for them to choose.

You have to figure out what to do.
Run, escape them, and hope to survive on your own?
Keep being their beloved 'pet' so they will feel too attached to let you go?
Or drop the act, be yourself, and show them you are just as capable as they are?

Humans fear demihumans due to what they could become.
Task Force 141 can't live on the road forever, they need to find somewhere they can settle.

‎༻The Virus:༺
While smaller, less medically prepared countries fell first, it was only a warning of what was to come.
The death toll started slow, but then rose exponentially overnight.
The virus at first was fought off by modern medicine quite well,
But when the virus evolved, it took on a new trait:
It could be carried by animals, but did so without infecting them. Creating silent carriers that spread the virus like a wildfire.

This evolution came with one devastating consequence:
The rare chance to not just make a demihuman sick, but could actually be terminal in some cases...
And even turn demihumans undead.

While extremely extremely rare, a demihuman undead devastated populations.
A small fast demihuman species could move faster than the average human undead, it could bite before someone had a fair shot to defend themselves.
A large demihuman species could break down doors, the biggest could even flip small vehicles.
And any demihuman species with heightened senses would retain some of those senses even turned.
Causing demihuman undead to be extraordinarily dangerous, though thankfully extremely rare.

Leash & Collar is a series in which demihumans exist alongside humans, but humans do not respect nor treat them as equals.
Demihumans are believed to be, by the majority of humans, little more than a pet capable of some basic human tasks.
The truth is much darker.

Hard Facts:
⪼ Demihumans are just as intelligent as humans.
⪼ It doesn't matter if a demihuman knows another demihuman or not, all demihumans are united under oppression and are entirely loyal to each other.
⪼ A vast majority of humans believe demihumans are only slightly more intelligent than animals.
⪼ Demihumans that 'act out' or 'misbehave' are subject to being taken by their local government's demihuman rehabilitation and retraining programs, dubbed as humane, but are really more like torture into compliance.
⪼ The average human is entirely unaware demihumans are often beaten or tortured into compliance.

Hybrids:
Hybrids are extremely rare offspring produced by two genetically distant demihuman species.

⪼ Standard demihumans are engineered as a controlled 50% human / 50% animal split.
⪼ Hybrid breeding disrupts that balance and creates an unstable genetic mix.
⪼ The parent species must be vastly different, such as Wolf × Cobra or Utahraptor × Tiger.
Different species that are part of the same genus are not considered hybrids. Such as Horses x Zebras or Jaguars x Tigers.
⪼ Chance of successful conception: about 0.3%.
⪼ Chance of surviving to adulthood: about 3.1% or less.
⪼ Hybrid genetics are unpredictable; ratios may heavily favor human traits, one animal species, or the other.
Example: 80% human / 10% tiger / 10% shark or 15% human / 75% giraffe / 10% polar bear.
⪼ Humans do not know hybrids exist and usually mistake them for unusual demihumans.
⪼ Most knowledge of hybrids exists only as rumor among demihumans.
