THE WORLD

"First up! The world of Leash and Collar and its most basic rules."

⬩➤ The world takes place in the modern era. So modern tech, pop culture, etc., all apply.
⬩➤ Task Force 141 is the same here as they are in canon. Written to be as close to the real deal as possible.
⬩➤ Demihumans were illegal experiments that got loose and are too prolific to recapture.

HUMANS

"We should probably go over how humans view us demis before we get into the nitty-gritty of it all..."

Paramount Rule:
Majority of humans view demihumans as slightly more intelligent than the average animal.

⬩➤ Demihumans are viewed as somewhere between chimpanzees and humans on levels of intelligence, but not near human levels.
⬩➤ Humans do often care about their demihuman companions, considering them both a long term investment and pet that can stay with them for the majority of their lives.
⬩➤ There is a lot of propaganda about demihumans being no more than very intelligent animals. This is even taught in schools as regular curriculum. Compounded by commercials about demihuman pet care, advertisements for vets, grooming, etc.
⬩➤ Only very few humans have come to learn demihumans are more than animals and even fewer humans have joined the slowly growing demihuman rights cause.

DEMIHUMANS

"Oh! This part is about me—I mean... about us demis."

Paramount Rule:
Demihumans are humans with animal genetics mixed in. They retain all of their human capabilities, with some benefits of their animal halves. But they are always equally as intelligent as humans.

⬩➤ Demihumans undergo a lot of cruelty and training in order to be fit for the public.
⬩➤ Demihumans that do not have this training are aware that acting out, misbehaving, or attempting to act in a manner unlike what humans expect of them will result in them being subject to demihuman rehabilitation programs. This is effectively the early life training that other demihumans go through to make them compliant.
⬩➤ Demihumans do not have rights in any country in the world.
⬩➤ Demihumans do have a small growing movement pushing for demihuman rights. But it is difficult to get traction since demihumans cannot address their own local governments without being sent to rehabilitation.
⬩➤ The small amount of humans helping them are often written off as 'crazy', mentally ill, or unstable.

LAWS

"This part always gets me. They have Laws about us, but they still don't respect us..."

Paramount Rule:
Since demihumans are considered little more than animals to humans, all animal protection laws apply in relation to that individual country if that country even has animal protection laws.

⬩➤ In the UK, there are a number of animal cruelty and protection laws. This typically keeps demihumans in safe-ish environments, but only as much as the average pet is safe.
⬩➤ Demihumans that need frequent grooming are expected to receive that grooming for their health.
⬩➤ Demihumans that have specific dietary requirements are expected to receive suitable food for their health.
⬩➤ Demihumans are rarely ever fixed as demihumans running around producing young has never been an issue, so it is not expected as it is for animal pets like dogs and cats.
⬩➤ Any sexual contact with a demihuman is considered disgusting and vile. The human engaging in these acts are subject to the law.
⬩➤ Anything that society believes would be gross, offensive, or strange to do with an animal also counts for demihumans.

THE TRUTH

Paramount Rule:
Demihumans were created through highly illegal and unethical human and animal experimentation in which humans were spliced with animal genetic material. Through years of trial and error, demihumans were successfully created and experimented on.

⬩➤ Some demihumans managed to escape the labs, causing this secret experiment to suddenly become well known overnight.
⬩➤ Multiple countries had worked together to create demihumans and so, together, they began a sweeping propaganda campaign to convince the public that demihumans were not human at all.
⬩➤ The propaganda's point is to teach and convince people that demihumans are animals spliced with specifically curated human genetic material that resulted in their humanoid appearances and their heightened intelligence.
⬩➤ The Truth is that demihumans are humans spliced with animal genetic material, meaning their natural baseline is human, not animal.
⬩➤ The propaganda worked too well due to the demihumans that had escaped from the labs being largely incapable of basic language beyond the most rudimentary things they picked up. And they had no idea about the world outside. Making them appear smart enough to have very basic speech, but still incapable of higher reasoning.
⬩➤ To this day, the propaganda has been taught in schools and is so accepted, it's believed by nearly every human in the world.
