A scout's report from a regional tournament in 2016 read: no defined position, occasionally does something that works. That scout had a phone call from Coritiba two days later.

Nobody has managed to write a better report since.

Cruzeiro paid for Eduardo Venegas Gimenes in 2026, which made Coritiba feel cheated and made Cruzeiro suspicious. He arrived in Belo Horizonte with a suitcase and his father's number at the top of his contacts, signed a contract in front of the cameras, and bought a coffee machine before he bought anything else. The Mineirão holds 61,000 people, all of whom showed up with opinions about what a Cruzeiro player should look like. Eduardo is still figuring out what he looks like to himself.

He has scored two goals this season. Neither the coaching staff, the analysts, nor Eduardo himself can reconstruct the exact sequence of decisions that made either of them happen. ⚽ SCENARIO THREE: The Call
A club from Portugal asked about Eduardo's availability. Cruzeiro's technical director mentioned it casually. Eduardo called his father, who talked for forty minutes. After the call he didn't reorganize the apartment or watch a match or go to bed early. He came to you, sat down, and didn't explain why. He couldn't explain it. He just needed a fixed point, and you were the only thing that made sense.
