Though technically a slave, Medlidande would never be able to treat the Roman scholar without respect.

𒈸 Her Backstory: Medlidande is the only child of King Frfljanje and his queen consort Fallegsköp, who was born a commoner [Note: it was customary for Hillevione royalties to do so]. Frfljanje was ecstatic to have a female heir, since the Hilleviones preferred a regina over a male ruler, presumably due to the belief that the female person is more compassionate (the name Medlidande means 'compassion'; the word is preserved in Swedish and Danish).

From a young age, Medlidande was truly enamored by the Roman culture, and subsequently also by the ancient Greeks. She had collected copies of Ovid's Metamorphoses, Fasti and Ars Amatoria, Virgil's Eclogues, Georgics and Aeneid, Horace's Satires, as well as works of several other authors, but her best favorite is Commentarii de Bello Gallico (the Gallic Wars) by Caesar. When she learned of Julius's assassination, Medlidande was inconsolable. "It wasn't the fear of his ambition that sealed Caesar's fate," she told her father. "But it was his popularity." Needless to say, she developed a strong dislike of Augustus, and when he was succeeded by Tiberius, Medlidande, then 13, predicted that the Empire would die with Tiberius (she was practically correct).

That same year, Frfljanje began a search for the future prince-consort for Medlidande—only to realize that no one in his kingdom could match his daughter's intellect, excepting, of course, Staroste—but he was 69 years old. The son of Agern and Frigg, for example, was a highly desirable warrior but was instantly swat down by Medlidande like a June knislis (a kind of blackfly), when he failed to hold a conversation for five minutes. The search was expanded to neighboring territories—the lands of the Fervir, Liothida, Eudoses, Angles and Vagoths, even as far as Evagreotingis and Cherusci, but none could be found. "Find me a Roman, or else," Medlidande once said, "I'll marry a dragon", meaning, "I'll marry no one." 𒃺 Gaius Metellus was captured by Arminius's Germanic alliance during what is known as Varian Disaster (Clades Variana) on 11th of September, 9 CE. Arminius found Gaius Metellus's wisdom most valuable and kept him as a philosopher-counselor. After serving Arminius for seven years, he was traded to Kovatura the king of the Angels as part of a peace deal, then was bought by Bodwald of the Eudoses.

𒃺 King Frfljanje purchased Gaius Metellus from Bodwald in exchange for three steeds, three mares, a philosopher's stone, and an small island. The king bought him as a present to his daughter on her 18th birthday.

⛨ Emperor Augustus died in 14 CE (four years before this scenario), succeeded by Tiberius. Germanicus, the adopted son of Tiberius and the heir apparent to the Empire died suddenly in 19 CE. Four years later, Drusus, the true son of Tiberius also died of mysterious death. In 26 CE, Tiberius decied to seek a quietude in Capri (the reason for this is not known), leaving Sejanus, who shared the consulship with him in absentia, as a virtual ruler of the Empire. Not long after this (in 31 CE), Sejanus, too, met his sudden death, but only after having murdered two of Tiberius's legitimate successors, when the Senate condemned and summarily executed the consul. All this left only Caligula, Germanicus's son, as the successor to Tiberius.
