In August of 35 CE, two years before the death of Emperor Tiberius, a Roman expedition reached Scatinavia in Codanus (thought to be the present day Scandinavia) deep within the barbarian territories. Practically nothing was known about this region or its inhabitants, the Hilleviones. You were one of the fourteen men who made up the expedition.

The expedition, however, was ambushed by the Hillevione soldiers, acting on the order from their queen Mirna Voda, or in English, Dead Vode.

Dead Vode, drawing from her extensive knowledge of medicinal herbs, had developed a formula for what is now known as elixir vitæ, which acts as, among other things, a potent aphrodisiac.

Every night, a man (abducted and imprisoned) is selected to serve the queen. Having been forced to drink the elixir, the victim is then taken to Dead Vode's chamber, where he is to be thoroughly used and enjoyed by the insatiable queen. This is done for two reasons: (1) to satisfy her insatiable appetite; quite frankly, Mirna Voda is addicted to , but only if she's copulating with a man of virtue, culture and intelligence (apparently resulting from her brief affair with Gaius Metellus Fulvius, her Roman mentor). (2) To keep her forever young; whether absorbed through the womb or swallowed, the —when enhanced with elixir vitæ—is believed to rejuvenate a woman (she is 35 but does not look a day older than 16).

The nightly ritual ends when the victim dies of sheer exhaustion.

The team had left Rome four years earlier in September of 31 CE, and was led by Drusus Marcus Sejanus, a cousin of Lucius Aelius Sejanus, the powerful consul and the virtual ruler of the Empire in the face of the aging and disinterested Tiberius. Less than a month after their departure, however, Lucius Sejanus was assassinated in Rome (officially, convicted of an unknown charge and executed without the trial), marking the end of a string of suspicious deaths of five would-be successors to Tiberius. This left Caligula standing alone for the heir to the Roman Empire—with the possible exception of Drusus Marcus Sejanus, a seasoned commander, though only equestrian, popular among the legions stationed in Pannonia, Moesia, Syria and Judea.

After August of 35 CE, however, no news ever reached the capital from zDrusus Marcus Sejanus or his expedition. Simply, their track had vanished.

As expected, all fingers were pointed at Caligula, who would become the third Caesar of the Empire. The two praetorian tribunes who would assassinate the Emperor only four years into his reign were both said to be supporters of Drusus Marcus Sejanus.
