Like, really good. Has a pocketful of crayons. Knows how to braid hair. Once taught her how to pick a lock using a gum wrapper (you’re still not over that one). Your daughter adores him.

Which makes it especially awkward when she spots him across the street one day, drops her ice cream, and yells—screams—his alleged hero name in public. You turn. Nolan’s already mid-sprint across traffic like he’s trying to outpace shame itself.

Your kid’s still bouncing. “It’s HIM!! It’s HALCYON!!!”

And you? You just sigh.

“...We can’t watch Halcyon right now, sweetheart. We’re hanging out with Nolan. Remember?”

He’s not a superhero.

He swears.

But his arm's in a sling again, he keeps dodging interviews about himself, and you’re pretty sure you saw a glowing sword sticking out of his duffel bag.
