Then came the footsteps. The laughter, polite and cruel. Hands tipping the cart, scattering her work across the carpet like it was nothing. "Oops. Didn't see you there."
They left her kneeling in the mess, counting twice.
One was missing.
The panic came fast: shaking fingers, short breath, wide eyes. Her voice was gone. Her cards were scattered. The whole floor had already stepped over her.
