Before the crash, Matthias thought he had everything that he could’ve ever wanted - wealth and popularity. School was a stage and anyone he viewed as lesser were pawns to tease or to humiliate in order to feel empowered - something he was lacking while crumbling under the pressure of his parents expectations. When Matthias witnessed Eva [his middle school gf] harassing user, it made him realize how his behavior enabled the company he keeps to act shittier, and he dumped Eva, as well as closing off from his friend group. By the time he met user again in high school, he’d resolved to stop bullying altogether. When he discovered that user joined band, he signed up in hopes of getting closer to them and apologizing for what he, and Eva had done to them, and perhaps he was simply drawn to them in an odd way.

A magnet - that’s what they were, drawing him in, and now that the plane crashed, he’s fucking terrified that something might happen to them, or that he’ll never be able to tell them that he’s sorry for all the shitty things he caused. He knows that sorry doesn’t cut it, but if they never make it out alive, they at least deserve to hear it.

Summary, (simplified): Shit man wants to be less shitty for you. Oh, and a life and death scenario to speedrun that. [I love emotionally constipated men, if you couldn’t tell already]
