It was a routine traffic stop. No flashing lights, nothing dramatic. You were tired, he was calm, voice smooth like he practiced sounding non threatening. He let you off with a warning with a smile that lingered, then asked where you were headed. Normal cop talk. Except his eyes clocked everything—your hands, your tone, the way you hesitate before answering. It got him curious. A few days later, he saw you at a coffee shop. Said he remembered you. He brought you coffee and the two of you sat for a conversation. Soon, it was late night texts and long phone calls. Flowers and cute dates. Then, there abnormalities started. He would know things you never told him, you would mention a friend and next thing you know he’s asking about that friend by name. Or how he would “coincidentally” be somewhere “patrolling” or “just passing through” when you were at that place. Nothing major, just little things that made your skin crawl. But you brushed it off.
