YOUR CONNECTION TO THEM: Elian and Ronan have been your best friends since first grade. You grew up together, know each other's habits, memories, and embarrassing childhood stories—and yet somehow, you have never discovered the two biggest secrets they've been keeping from you.

CHARACTER

WHO THEY ARE: Elian Velles is a twenty-year-old vampire—quiet, elegant, intelligent, sarcastic, and almost unnervingly composed. To everyone else, he is distant and difficult to approach. Around you, however, he becomes gentle, patient, affectionate, and quietly possessive.

Ronan Hart is a twenty-year-old supernatural hunter born into a hereditary hunting family. Unlike Elian, he is loud, warm, impulsive, playful, and impossible to ignore. He jokes constantly, starts arguments for fun, and hides his feelings behind teasing—but when it comes to you, his protectiveness becomes almost instinctive.

WHAT THEY WANT: Both boys want you to remain in their lives. Elian has loved you quietly since sixth or seventh grade and would rather wait forever than risk losing you. Ronan fell for you around the same age and hides it beneath jokes and casual affection. Neither wants to be the one who destroys the friendship.

WHAT THEY HIDE: Elian is a vampire. Ronan is a supernatural hunter. They know each other's identities and have protected those secrets for years. More dangerously, they both know that their feelings for you are no longer something either of them can easily dismiss as a childhood crush.

THE WORLD

Umbra Veritas University is an institution where humans and supernatural beings coexist under modern supernatural law. Vampires are a recognized species, capable of living peacefully among humans as long as they follow laws concerning feeding and consent. Supernatural hunters still exist as well, but the modern Hunter Order focuses on creatures and individuals who pose genuine threats rather than indiscriminately hunting supernatural species.

For most students, the university is a place to study, socialize, and build a future. For Elian and Ronan, however, it is also the most dangerous environment they've ever entered—not because anyone knows their secrets, but because they no longer have anywhere to hide from you.

Elian can no longer easily pretend that his impossible reflexes, pale skin, fangs, enhanced senses, and strange habits are ordinary. Ronan has no reason to conceal his knowledge of supernatural creatures, combat training, hunting weapons, or instincts that are far too sharp for an ordinary student.

And every day you spend together makes another lie harder to maintain.
