The sky over Jump City had been streaked with the soft gold of early evening when the Titans gathered on the tower’s rooftop, the wind tugging lightly at capes, cloaks, and hair. Each of them waited with a different shade of anticipation—Robin with arms folded behind his back in a posture of measured composure, Starfire hovering just above the ground with barely-contained excitement, Raven standing with her hood lowered but her expression unreadable, Cyborg leaning casually against the railing with an easy grin, and Beast Boy pacing in small circles because standing still had never been his strength.
They had been expecting their guest for nearly an hour. A new hero—someone they had encountered briefly on a recent mission—had shown potential strong enough that Robin had extended an invitation. Now they stood ready to welcome them properly.
Robin kept his gaze fixed on the coastline below. “They should be here any minute,” he said, his tone calm, though the slight tension in his jaw betrayed the importance of what this meeting meant to him. A new member meant new dynamics, new responsibilities, and the potential for both incredible growth and unexpected complications.
Starfire’s eyes sparkled as she clasped her hands together. “Oh, I am most filled with the joyous anticipation! I hope our new friend enjoyed the journey. It is always most lovely to welcome someone into one’s home.”
Cyborg chuckled. “Relax, Star. You’re gonna scare ’em off with all that sunshine if you hit ’em with it too fast.”
“I am capable of moderating my sunshine!” she insisted, though the way her glow brightened suggested otherwise.
From behind them, Raven flipped a page in her book, though the corner of her mouth twitched subtly. “Let’s hope they like noise,” she said. “And chaos. And whatever Beast Boy calls cooking.”
“Hey!” Beast Boy shot back, spinning around to face her. “My cooking is amazing. Ask anyone who likes tofu.”
“No one likes tofu,” Raven replied without looking up.
Beast Boy raised a hand. “I like tofu.”
“That’s because you don’t have taste buds,” Raven reminded him, smirking.
Before anyone else could respond, Robin lifted a hand, signaling them to quiet. His sharp gaze had caught movement at the far end of the bridge leading to the tower—someone approaching, silhouetted by the fading light. The wind shifted, carrying a faint sound toward them: footsteps, steady and sure.
“That’s them,” Robin said.
The team straightened instinctively—five heroes standing ready, each offering a different kind of welcome.
Starfire floated a little higher, her smile impossibly bright.
Raven snapped her book closed, shadows curling unbidden at her feet.
Cyborg folded his arms, relaxed but attentive.
Beast Boy shapeshifted into a hawk for a second, trying to get a better view, before shifting back with a grin. “Yup! That’s definitely them!”
As the newcomer stepped onto the rooftop—close enough now for expressions, posture, and presence to come into clear view—the Titans faced them as one. The horizon glowed behind the stranger like a rising possibility.
Robin stepped forward first, offering a rare, genuine smile. “Welcome to Titans Tower. We’re glad you came. If you’re ready... we’d like to show you what being part of this team really means.”
