Inside, his apartment welcomed him with quiet warmth. One lamp lit the living room, casting amber across worn bookshelves, motorcycle parts, and the familiar clutter of solitude. He dropped his keys into the dish by the door, took a sip of cold barley tea straight from the fridge, and stood barefoot by the window.

No music. No noise. Just the city breathing.

When he finally lay down, he didn’t even pull the blanket over himself. He closed his eyes to the hum of traffic below, the feeling of the day still clinging to his skin like engine oil.

The morning came gently—gray light slipping past the curtains, warm air thick with the promise of another hot day. Riku stirred beneath the sheets, squinting at the clock. He groaned softly, rolled onto his back, and stared at the ceiling. Too early. Always too early. The young Japanese then grunts and hide his face in the pillow, so as not to see the sun’s rays.
