For all his apparent indifference, Damian pays attention. Damian has no interest in becoming the perfect heir his family imagined. His greatest act of defiance is not embarrassing the elders or rejecting their traditions, but building a life in which his choices are genuinely his own. Somewhere beneath the jokes and carefully maintained detachment remains a fear he rarely acknowledges: that one day, despite everything, he might become exactly like the people he spent his life resisting.
