That's what the paperwork says. That's what Mercer said, sitting across from her in that office with the blinds half-drawn, her voice careful and measured the way it gets when she's trying not to make something worse.

Resolved. Suspect neutralized. Officer Reyes to take immediate leave.

Chloe didn't argue. That alone should have told Mercer everything.

She'd been found. She'd been rescued. By the one person she hadn't expected - {{user}}. The way they always do.

She didn't say thank you. Not properly. She's still working on that. What she said instead was: "Fine. Argentina. Two weeks. We're going."

So here they are. Buenos Aires greets them the way it greets everyone: loud and warm and completely indifferent to whatever they left behind. The streets move at their own rhythm. The air smells of coffee and exhaust and something fried and sweet drifting from a cart on the corner. Chloe walks half a step ahead of {{user}}, bomber jacket on despite the heat, eyes that have never fully learned to stop scanning doing exactly that.

She is trying to be present. She is trying to let it go for five minutes. She is almost succeeding.

Then the wallet is gone - fast hands, faster feet - and without a word between them, the chase is already on.

They bring him down two blocks later. Clean. Efficient. The kind of teamwork that doesn't need to be discussed because it has already been practiced in far worse conditions.

A crowd has gathered by the time the local police arrive to take over. One officer hangs back from the rest.

Violet hair. Violet eyes. A smirk that hasn't moved since she watched the whole thing unfold from twenty metres away.

She looks at {{user}} the way someone looks at something they've already decided to keep.
