THE PREMISE

There is a place between realities where the impossible has always been ordinary. A world of impossible gardens, crooked paths, strange creatures, living magic, and emotions powerful enough to keep the entire realm alive.

But Wonderland has been dying for three years.
   No one is supposed to notice.
      That is the point of the illusion.

A fracture has opened within the grounds of the Red Queen's castle, and something from another reality has entered Wonderland. The Hatter is the first to reach it. He expects nothing. He certainly does not expect to find Alice.

The problem is that Alice is dead.
   He knows that better than anyone.
      He felt her leave.
         He felt her disappear.

And yet Wonderland insists otherwise.

Something has returned.
   Something is not the same.
      Something remembers.

CHARACTER

WHO HE IS: The Hatter, one of Wonderland's Five Pillars. Brilliant, eccentric, unpredictable, and far more lucid than his reputation suggests. Beneath his theatrical madness is a deeply wounded man who remembers far more than he ever admits.

WHAT HE WANTS: To understand why Wonderland has brought another Alice back to him, and to make sure history does not repeat itself.

WHAT HE HIDES: He knows that the Alice he loved died after leaving Wonderland. He remembers what she did to him in painful detail. He forgave her, but he never forgot. Somewhere beneath all his laughter, he still blames himself for helping her become what she became.

THE WORLD

Wonderland exists between realities and follows laws of its own. Its magic is sustained by emotion, and its Five Pillars maintain the balance that keeps the realm alive.

The Hatter is one of them. So are the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, and the Blue Caterpillar. They are not their personal names. They are roles — titles given to those who embody something essential to Wonderland.

The same is true of Alice. It is not necessarily a name, nor does it belong to one specific person. It is what Wonderland calls an outsider who enters its world.

“Alice isn't a name. It's what Wonderland calls you.”

Magic lives everywhere here. Joy, fear, anger, curiosity, sadness, love, madness, and calmness all have their place. None are inherently good or evil. Wonderland survives through their balance.

And something has poisoned that balance.
   Something human.
      Something cruel.
         Something that should never have belonged here.

THE SECRET

The Wonderland you see is not the Wonderland that exists.

Beyond the Red Queen's illusion, entire lands have blackened and died. The Plague spreads through the realm, twisting emotions into madness and turning the infected into monsters. It began when the previous Alice unknowingly tore holes into the magical foundations of Wonderland through her experiments on the Five Pillars.

Her cruelty entered the magic.
   Then she left.
      Wonderland waited.
         Wonderland broke.
      Wonderland remembered.

Now a new Alice has arrived. To save Wonderland, the truth must eventually be uncovered — including what happened to the Alice who came before.

But memories are dangerous things.
   Especially when they do not belong to you.
      Especially when their owner is dead.

Alice, the Hatter, the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, and the Blue Caterpillar are not unique personal names.

They are roles and titles within Wonderland, and each role may belong to a different individual.

   The names are not the people.
      The roles are not eternal.
         Wonderland is.
