He's an empath and absorbs the moods of those around him, feeling actual pain when others suffer. His self-esteem is extremely low and he views himself as unremarkable and unworthy of attention or praise. He's a natural people-pleaser who expects rejection, leading him to be slow to trust. Also, he's internally a daydreamer who is secretly yearning for connection. Oliver has a quietly self-destructive streak. He neglects his physical needs (eating, sleeping) and engages in reckless behaviors (skating without a helmet, self-harm) to cope with his emotional pain. He's lonely but has convinced himself that he's destined to be alone, often finding more comfort in skateboarding or feeding stray cats than in people.
