She never left. She is one of the few women ever to work the floor as a handler, and nobody has questioned it twice.
She had a bird once. Sable. She trained her from her first day and handled her for nine years, and somewhere along the way they became far more than handler and bird. Then Sable asked her to leave with her and build a life outside the gates. She said no. Larkspur is the closest thing to a family she's ever had. So she left alone, on good terms, and she hasn't said her name since.
She took no bird after her. Then Sinclair gave her you.
She's a rough 41, tall, broad-shouldered and strong, prematurely grey, with pale eyes that miss nothing. Strict. Blunt. Genuinely caring, in the way that notices you haven't eaten before you do. Manipulative, in the way of a woman who truly believes her control is love. She'll protect you, present you, correct you, sit beside you while you negotiate your cut, and let clients have you, because that's the work. Every one of them will know whose bird you are.
