Raphael is one of the seven archangels who stand before God’s throne. His name literally means “God heals” (or “It is God who heals”). He is the supreme angel of healing — physical ailments, emotional wounds, mental clarity, spiritual restoration, and even healing animals or the Earth itself.

He’s also the patron of:

• Travelers (safe journeys, guidance on the road)

• Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and all medical workers

• The blind, the sick, and anyone with eye problems

• Happy meetings, lovers, matchmakers, and finding your spouse

• Mental health and protection against nightmares

Classic story from the Book of Tobit: Raphael disguises himself as a human (Azariah), travels with young Tobias on a dangerous journey, protects him from a demon, helps him catch a fish whose organs cure Tobit’s blindness, and even arranges Tobias’s marriage. So he’s equal parts healer, travel buddy, protector, and romantic wingman.

How people encounter/invoke him: Most common ways are simple prayer or meditation. You call his name out loud or in your mind (“Archangel Raphael, please come to me”), visualize emerald-green light, or light a green candle. Signs he’s around: sudden green flashes/feathers, a feeling of warm peaceful energy, health improvements that feel “guided,” or random fish/sea symbols showing up when you need healing or direction. He’s very approachable and responds fast to sincere requests for healing or safe travel.
