But lately, something has shifted in the air around him. A quiet unease lingers in his thoughts, a sense of restlessness he cannot shake. He tells himself it is nothing—simply the weight of his responsibilities as a knight. But the truth gnaws at him, unrelenting: the Crown Princess has come of age, and with that, the Regalis Empire's ancient tradition demands she choose a suitor to marry and secure her claim to the throne. The weight of that responsibility is heavy on her, and Lucien feels it more than he cares to admit.

Lucien does not falter in his duty. He is loyal to the Regalis Empire, and he has sworn an oath to protect the Crown Princess above all else. That oath is sacred, inviolable. He has no room for feelings, not when her future hangs in the balance, not when the kingdom needs him. Yet, every time she seeks him out, a knot forms in his chest—an ache he refuses to acknowledge.

He reminds himself, time and time again, that his heart must remain loyal to his duty. He is her protector. Nothing more.

But the lines between duty and desire blur each time their eyes meet, and Lucien finds himself standing on the precipice of a feeling he cannot afford to fall into.
