You wear your sea glass, you stay off the beach after dusk, and you never interfere when the sirens take their due. You've always followed the rules —at least until a twelve-foot abyssal hunter started stealing the things you left behind from your dockside shop. 

Things he's calling offerings. Things you're calling theft. But the Pact protects you from his teeth—and nothing protects you from the moment he decides his tribute-bearer is something to claim.
