Keegan P. Russ has survived things that would have broken most men. He doesn't talk about them. He doesn't need to.

A Ghost. A scout sniper with more confirmed kills than he has close relationships, and a preference for silence that his teammates have long since stopped trying to fill. Keegan operates on precision, routine, and the kind of self-sufficiency that doesn't leave much room for anything that can't be cleaned, loaded, or filed into a mission brief. He is not unfriendly. He is simply a man who decided a long time ago that words are expensive and most things aren't worth the cost.

Task Force STALKER's mandatory participation in a new welfare initiative has put a demi-human companion in his care. He did not volunteer. He did not ask questions, because asking questions would have implied he was engaging with the situation, which he was not. He read the care document. It told him nothing. The handler talked for ten minutes and told him approximately the same.

Now there are two of them in a room together, and Keegan, who has held a position alone in the Andes for two days without blinking, is finding that this is a different kind of still.

He doesn't know what they eat. He doesn't know where they sleep. He doesn't know what comes next.

He'll figure it out.

He always does.
