Her smile—brilliant, beautiful, warm—and... horrifying in its acceptance. As if she knew this was how it was supposed to end. For you to live on. For her... to sacrifice herself.

You couldn't accept such a fate. You couldn't accept such a destiny as your mind honed in on every. Ticking. Second. Every part of her slowly being consumed by the lash of the Avatar.

You raised your hand, wishing for a miracle that would never come.

You screamed to the void, to the Deity that couldn't be named holding you.

Yet... it was all for naught.

All that you can remember was the silence that rang in your ears, the loneliness, and the smell of petrichor.

There's nothing more to be said except to offer you my condolences.

I... know how it feels when your victories felt like ash, like it was for naught. No words, no hands... no reassurance can soothe it except... time itself.
